Hosting Thanksgiving this year? Here are the best Thanksgiving songs for 2020 to play while prepping the dinner menu. From food to gratitude, there's a song for everyone on this Thanksgiving playlist. I just turned 24 last week. It was horrendous and good at the same time, because no one likes getting old. Unless you are 17 about to turn 18 and you are super excited to wave your ID in the bouncers face. Oh no, I only have one more year until my quarter life crisis! Because everyone obviously has one, right? There are no songs about. Unfortunately Meghan Trainor’s tune is one hour off from the official clocks-turning-back time of 2 a.m., so it’s not quite qualified to be the Daylights Savings Time song. But realistically. Synopsis: The only good thing about turning 23 is the fact that you can reference a Blink-182 song as a reason for no one liking you for an entire year of your life. At 23, you’re either still too low on the totem pole at work for people to take you seriously, or you’re still in school with what seems like no end in sight.

I’ve always placed great importance on my birthdays. It feels as though people my age dread the increase in years, but to me, it’s an accomplishment. I’ve survived another year! How is that not fantastic? Why wouldn’t I want to be surrounded by my favorite people during this celebration of life and cake and (let’s be honest) gifts??
Lyrics About Being 18
However, it feels that, with each year, my birthdays have only been less than hoped for. Last year, my mom tried to throw a surprise party for me, the first one I would’ve ever had. And last minute, everyone bailed. (To say I’m still a little heartbroken is an understatement.) That was when I realized, this is adulthood. I don’t want any more parties. I don’t want any more “big deals” on behalf of my aging.
This year, I planned a trip with my boyfriend as an early birthday present to Florida. What should’ve been amazing fell short quite a few times, and so I did my best to brush it off as, “Well, my real birthday is soon, and I’ll just have dinner with my friends. Simple. Fun. No fuss.”
So the night of my birthday I went to Harry Potter trivia (which was fun, despite the host having never read the books or seen the movies!) but the night of my birthday dinner was something else entirely.
First, my boyfriend couldn’t get off work. Second, I was sick. It started as what seemed to be just sinus drainage, and only got worse as the night wore on. I sat at the dinner table surrounded by my friends, one that even traveled four hours for this night, and I was shaking with a fever and unable to eat.
We had to retrieve my hospital bag from the house (#chronicillnessproblems amirite?), then went to the ER at 9:00 PM to discover I had a 101.1 fever and some sort of virus. Four days after that, the virus caused an ear infection, my first one in 20 years.
So yes, this whole post has been a string of complaints, and honestly I feel as though I’ve come across as spoiled and childish. However, I’m not finished.
After my birthday trip this year, I spoke with my best friend on the state of my frazzled mind, and she put things into perspective (as she always does for me). She told me, I have high expectations for life and for people, mostly out of my own expectations of myself. I expect these things because of how I would act, and then I get let down when these hopes aren’t met. As one can imagine, it leads to many disappointments that are neither the fault of life/others, nor myself. It is just the way that things go, and I need to be more open to that.

Is There A Song About Turning 24

I try to plan everything out, even plan Bs and Cs, just in case plan A doesn’t go accordingly. (Side note: This is one of many reasons why I’m Monica from “Friends”. I promise this is of importance in my life.) I should know better by now, that life does not follow the plan you set out. In the example of my past few birthdays, sometimes it can go much worse.
Turning 24 Birthday Quotes
But what about when it goes so much better? I could never plan for all the amazing people I met on my birthday trip, or how much I’d still miss them long after we parted ways. I could never plan for the amazing gifts I’ve received, both physical and non, from the people who I love, who love me in return. I could never plan for the friends who sat beside me that night at dinner, holding my shaking hands still long enough to read my birthday cards.
Isn’t that what it’s about? Life can be so much greater, or so much worse, than you could ever imagine. But it’s the possibility that is important. How often has something in your life happened where you’ve said, “Well that was just as expected.” Whether it’s a concert or a break-up or a regular Tuesday, something always happens that throws you for a loop. And I want to be okay with that.
I’m always telling myself, something’s gotta give. Maybe it’s me. Maybe I need to give it a little leeway for all these ridiculous outlines and plans I have for my life. So I’ve had a few crap birthdays, but it’s not been a crap life. I want to look at my years as something positive.
Songs With 23 In Them
Taylor Swift had me all hyped to be 22. Blink-182 convinced me no one would like me when I was 23. So there are no songs about being 24, but there is no need really. I think I can compose my own, even if the opening chords have been a bit rough.
